Urban Wildlife Rehabilitation Collab

Urban Wildlife Rehabilitation Collab

Some collaborations start in a conference room.

This one started with a porcupine, more than a few raccoons, and a shared belief that the animals most people overlook are usually the ones worth paying attention to.

We’re excited to introduce our collaboration with Urban Wildlife Rehabilitation, Inc., a wildlife rehabilitation organization that has been helping wild animals since 2001.

And yes, naturally, we made shirts.

Wildlife With a Slightly Better PR Department

Raccoons and opossums have a branding problem.

One gets accused of stealing garbage.

The other responds to stressful situations by falling over and looking dead.

Neither has invested heavily in public relations.

Wildlife rehabilitators see something different.

They see intelligent, adaptable animals trying to survive alongside us. They see injured animals that need medical care, orphaned babies that need weeks or months of round-the-clock attention, and patients that eventually get the best possible goodbye: a return to the wild.

That work is exactly what inspired this collection.

The People Behind Wildlife Rehabilitation

Wildlife rehabilitation is one of those jobs that looks adorable from a distance.

Baby squirrels!

Tiny raccoons!

Little opossum faces!

Then you get closer and discover the feeding schedules, medication, laundry, specialized diets, veterinary bills, enclosures, permits, bodily fluids and an animal that has somehow managed to poop somewhere physics says it should not have been able to reach.

Rehabbers do it anyway.

They take the call.

They prepare the food.

They clean the cage again.

And again.

And probably again.

They give wild animals a chance to recover without asking those animals to become anything other than what they are: wild.

That matters to us.

Why This Collaboration Fits Berkshires Boutique

Berkshires Boutique has always had a soft spot for the animals living just beyond the porch light.

The raccoon staring through your window hoping for a late night snack.

The opossum crossing the yard at 11 PM.

The owl judging your porch light from a tree.

Our designs are funny because wildlife is funny. But underneath the jokes is genuine respect for these animals and the people working to protect them.

That made collaborating with UWR an easy fit.

We get to make something fun.

They get to put the animals they care about front and center.

And a few more people might look at an opossum and think important part of the ecosystem before thinking why is that enormous rat in my driveway?

Progress.
