Oscar’s Stick Situation

Oscar the Owl had no time for petals. Or glittery beetles. Or anything that fluttered. What he needed—urgently—was sticks. Not just any sticks. The right ones. Strong, straight, and no weird curves.

He adjusted his tiny helmet, double-checked his basket, and set off down the trail with a determined hoot. The forest was full of distractions—chirpy chipmunks, bouncy birds, and way too many flowers waving around like they were in a parade. Oscar rolled his eyes and pedaled faster.

At his favorite stick-spot (a very specific patch behind a very pointy rock), he began his search. He poked. He peered. He muttered. Some sticks were too bendy. Some were soggy. One had a suspicious bit of sparkle. Absolutely not.

Finally, after a lot of sorting and just a little grumbling, Oscar filled his basket with twiggy perfection. “Functional. Straightforward. Exceptional,” he declared.

On the way home, a butterfly floated by. He ignored it. A squirrel waved. He nodded once, maybe. Then he reached his tree, tucked the new sticks neatly into his already enormous pile, and made himself a cup of pine-needle tea.
