Scout’s Lazy-ish Day

(As told by Scout the Squirrel)

Alright, listen up, because today was supposed to be a chill day. A lazy day. A day of no responsibilities, no plans, and most importantly—no rules.

That’s right. Today, I was gonna do absolutely nothing.

But you know what’s funny about doing nothing? It gets boring. Fast.

So, there I was, sprawled out on my favorite tree branch, staring at the clouds, waiting for inspiration to strike. And then it hit me—Milo. Milo is way better at being lazy than I am. He’s got the whole cozy lifestyle thing down to a science. If anyone could teach me how to truly enjoy a lazy day, it was that little robe-wearing, latte-sipping mouse.

So, naturally, I raced down to his burrow and knocked on the door. No answer.

I knocked again. Still nothing.

“Milo! Hey, buddy! Open up, I got a brilliant idea.”

Silence.

I leaned in, sniffed, and—oh yeah, he was definitely in there. And more importantly, so was a fresh-made latte.

“Milo, c’mon! I know you’re in there. I can smell your latte through the door.”

Finally, the door creaked open just a crack, and there he was—robe-clad, eyes half-lidded, looking like a tiny, grumpy wizard.

"Scout," he sighed. "My dear, energetic friend. What part of ‘day off’ do you not understand?”

I grinned. “Oh, I totally get it. But hear me out—what if we took your day off to the next level? I’m talking hammocks, sunbathing, and a snack basket that mysteriously appeared from a picnic up the hill.”

Milo just stared at me. His classic disapproving mouse stare.

"Scout, are you suggesting we steal a picnic?"

I gasped, utterly offended. "Steal? No, no, Milo. Redistribute. Think about it—who needs an entire basket of snacks when they could just have some snacks? Sharing is caring.”

Another long, exhausted mouse stare.

He rubbed his temples like I was giving him a headache just by existing. "I’m not going on a snack heist with you, Scout. Today is about peace. Solitude. Not getting chased by angry campers."

I pouted. "Alright, alright. You enjoy your fancy latte. I’ll just go have an adventure all by myself. In the wild. Alone. Where it’s dangerous. A shame, really."

I sighed dramatically for emphasis. It was a truly award-worthy performance.

Milo just kept staring at me. Then, finally—finally—he let out another long sigh.

"Scout."

"Yes, Milo?"

“…Do you want a latte?”

My ears perked up. “Do I?! Milo, you are a vision of hospitality!”

And that’s how I ended up wrapped in a ridiculously soft blanket, sipping one of the best lattes I’ve ever had, while Milo mumbled about how I was ruining his peaceful morning. Honestly? It was perfect.

Sure, I had originally planned on a big lazy day filled with big snack-related ideas… but sometimes? A slow morning with a friend, a cozy spot, and a really good latte is all you need.
