Willow’s Lazy Day (As Told by Willow the Fox)

It had been a long week. The kind of week that tested patience, endurance, and, at one point, whether or not I could climb a pine tree in a dress. (For the record, I absolutely can. It wasn’t easy, and I don’t recommend it, but it can be done.)

So today? Today was supposed to be a day of rest.

The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of damp earth and pine. Perfect for lounging. I pulled my robe around my shoulders—plush, warm, utterly comforting—and wrapped my hands around a freshly brewed latte.

I sat on the wooden steps of my den, bare feet resting against the cool ground, letting the silence settle around me like a second blanket. The forest, so often alive with chatter and movement, felt like it was holding its breath.

And then, of course, came the chaos.

"Willow!" a voice hollered from the trees.

I sighed into my mug. So much for peace.

A moment later, a bedraggled otter came barreling through the clearing, panting, eyes wild. “Trouble at the river!” he wheezed. “Ducks are arguing again!”

I stared at him. “You ran all this way… to tell me the ducks are bickering?”

“They’re in a mood, Willow. Things are getting heated.”

I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose. “Do they ever not bicker?”

The otter shifted awkwardly. “...This time, it’s about seating arrangements.”

I let out a long breath and took another sip of my latte. Some creatures fought over territory, some fought over survival. The ducks? They fought over who got the best spot on a log.

I set my mug down with a sigh and stood, stretching my arms over my head. “Alright then. Let’s go negotiate peace before someone gets hurt.”

The otter blinked. “You’re coming like that?” He gestured at my robe.

I arched a brow. “It’s a perfectly fine robe.”

“Yeah, but it’s—”

I pulled the robe tighter around my waist. “This robe has survived rainstorms, bonfires, and one unfortunate honey-related incident. It will survive a diplomatic mission to the duck pond.”

The otter hesitated, then nodded solemnly. “Alright. Let’s go.”
